NBA President Attends The Renaming Of Legal Aid Council Headquarters After Chief Chimezie Ikeazor, SAN.

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN joined other dignitaries including the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; Sharon Ikeazor, Minister of State for Niger Delta; Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and Prof. Isa Chiroma,SAN, DG of the Nigerian Law School at the renaming of the Legal Aid Council Headquarters after Chief Chimezie Ikeakor, SAN.

The event which held yesterday, 25/10/2022 in Abuja paid tribute to the selfless legal work of Chief Chimezie Ikeazor, SAN for indigent persons in need of legal representation through the Nigerian Legal Aid Association that he founded.

Chief Chimezie Ikeazor, SAN was popularly known as the ‘The Poor Man’s Lawyer’ and the ‘Father of Legal Aid in Nigeria’. He and his friends were the force that birthed the Nigerian Legal Aid Association which metamorphosed into the present Legal Aid Council of Nigeria.

The President of the NBA presented the Grand Award of the day to the Ikeazor family which was received by Mr. Phillip Ikeazor on behalf of the family and handed over to the Matriarch of the family Mrs. M.C. Ikeazor.

Other founding members of the Nigerian Legal Aid Association honoured included Chief Felix Offia (National Counsellor, Nigerian Legal Aid Association) who was present at the event. Late Prince David Akenzua(Vice-President, Nigerian Legal Aid Association), Late Chief Solomon Lar(Secretary-General Nigerian Legal Aid Association) and Late Chief Debo Akande,SAN (Director of Operations, Nigerian Legal Aid Association) were also posthumously honoured.

The Legal Aid Council is the soul of the Legal Profession which ensures that justice is served to the poorest of the poor.
