The Employment and Labour Lawyers Association of Nigeria (ELLAN) is set to host the 2nd edition of its flagship event tagged “THE ELLAN Exchange”.
THE ELLAN EXCHANGE is the association’s flagship event which aims to deepen conversation and debate on contemporary issues in labour and employment law using debates as a form of exchange. “The ELLAN Exchange”, which debuted in 2017, is a unique debate style event that brings the most talented experts in labour and employment law in Nigeria to delve into contemporary but contentious labour and employment law issues in the country. It is a celebration of intelligence, oratory and creative thinking by the brightest and finest the profession has to offer.
The association has received several commendations for its work especially in the area of being a repository of delivering expert knowledge and resources in labour related matters. This has encouraged the association to do more, trusting that with regular conversations and stakeholder engagement, there will be significant reforms and development as far as labour and employment issues are concerned.
It is for this reason that the association is hosting the 2nd edition of THE ELLAN Exchange. Speaking with our correspondent, Jamiu Akolade, a trustee and member of the planning committee for the ELLAN Exchange, stated that this year’s edition will be a 2-in-1 event. The first session tagged ‘The Labour Law Exchange’ will feature an oxford style debate between two teams of three eminent legal juggernauts each debating the motion: ‘The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN’s) Adoption of International Best Practices is an Unwarranted Expansion of the Labour Law Jurisprudence’. These legal juggernauts include; Professor Taiwo Osipitan SAN, Professor Chioma Agomo, Mrs. Abimbola Akeredolu SAN, Mr. Chukwuka Ikwuazom SAN, Mr. Faruq Abbas, and Mr. Emmanuel Wingate. The debate will be moderated by Mr. Folabi Kuti SAN.
The second session tagged ‘The Presidential Exchange’ continues the trail blazing tradition pioneered by ELLAN in 2020 to engage the leading candidates for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). This year, the Presidential Exchange will feature three (3) NBA Presidential Aspirants exchanging thoughts on the topic; Raising the Standards of the Legal Profession – The Role of the NBA’.
The Panelists include; Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN, Y.C Maikyau SAN, Jonathan Taidi, Esq.,. The session will be moderated by Sola Soyele, judiciary correspondent with Channels Television and host of The Law Weekly.
