Courts in Nnewi in Anambra State have suspended sitting following the spate of killings in recent time in the industrial city by gunmen
Most of the cases in different High Courts have been pushed to November ending.
The Nation discovered during a meeting in the town on Tuesday that the judges failed to attend Court sessions because of insecurity.
Some of the Lawyers, who spoke with The Nation, on account of anonymity, said everyone was afraid of his or her life, including the Judges
It was further discovered that all the lawyers who came to the Courts were there to pick dates for their cases.
One of the lawyers said: “You can see what is happening now, there is no security in the Court premises and the Judges don’t have security guards either.
“From the recent killings in the area, nobody will like to risk his or her life and I don’t blame the Judges for not sitting.”
On Sunday, two persons were killed while another was injured in Nnewi when gunmen, numbering over 20, invaded the city.
The gunmen attacked the office of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, Department of State Service DSS and the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital NAUTH
