The Executive Director of Transparency and Anti-Corruption Lawyers’ Network (TRANSLAWN) and the National Publicity Secretary of NBA Mr. Olakunle Edun and a member of the group Mr. Darlington Ehirim have given the Code of Conduct Bureau, seven days to provide the Assets and Liabilities Declaration forms of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Chairman, Mr. Danladi Umar and his children below 18 years.
According to the letter which was issued on behalf of the group by the firm of Tri-Lex Partners, the demand was brought within the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2011 as well as the African Charter on Human and People’s Right Act. The group threatened that if the CCB fail to accede to their demand within seven days, it shall seek redress in court.
The demand by the group is coming on the heels of the CCT trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Onnoghen over his failure to declare his assets.
According to the letter, the Lawyers’ Network Group shall be constrained to approach the court to seek declaratory and injunctive reliefs including a declaration that the CCT Chairman is not feat and proper to hold public office.
