The Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) has said it is confident that the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Paul Usoro SAN has what it takes to establish a productive relationship between the NBA and Law Students in Nigeria.

LAWSAN President, Mr. Atiku Muhammad Jafar stated this in a congratulatory letter to the NBA President on behalf of LAWSAN.

“I write on behalf of all law students in Nigeria to congratulate you on your election and subsequent inauguration as the 29th President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).”

“Our association has monitored the recent NBA elections with keen interest, hoping that the Bar will place a person who will listen to the plight of law students at the helm of its affairs. Fortunately, your antecedents prove you a man worthy for the calling.”

LAWSAN also used the opportunity to appeal to the President of the Bar to help in building capacity in Law Students all over Nigeria.

“As we join in congratulating and celebrating you on this singular feat, may I relate to you our sentiments and most pressing concerns in all Law Faculties across Nigeria to wit: We look up to a Nigerian Bar that is geared towards building capacity in Law Students and securing a Brighter Bar for us, as prospective lawyers and adding value to Law Students’ Unionism.”

“As the umbrella body for all law students in Nigeria, we regard the Nigerian Bar Association as a parent body and we look up to the NBA to regard us a its limb. This is evident in the fruitful and productive relationship we have had with each other, especially the NBA Section on Business Law. In view of this, we humbly appeal to you to embrace us and give consideration to law students, through the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, in your activities as you undertake this developmental stride of building an all inclusive Bar.”

We trust you would live up to the high expectations of lawyers, law students and the public, as this will go a long way in realising the NBA’s aims and objectives of promoting cooperation between the association and other national or international law organisations, promoting public confidence in the legal profession, helping law students achieve their vision of coordinating their affairs and contributing to national development under a veritable national umbrella, and marking unprecedented success.”
