According to financial report on the feasibility studies carried out on stock market, only one in three is investing in the stock market. That could be because of anxiety, Ally Invest found, after conducting a survey of more than 2,000 Nigerians aged 18 and older.

About 61 percent of adults say they find investing in the stock market “scary or intimidating.”

In a country of ours where majority say they know they will need to be more financially secure someday but don’t know how to get there. There are a few reasons why, according to the data. Half of respondents say the thought of losing money in a bad investment is an obstacle while over a third, 35 percent, say the amount of money they believe to be required to invest is. Just under a third, 31 percent, say they don’t know whom to trust to help them invest. And 24 percent say they don’t know how to get started.

The Nigerian Stock Exchange powers the growth of Africa’s largest economy and offers a comprehensive range of products which includes shares (equities), exchange traded funds (ETFs) and bonds, all of which can be bought and sold on The NSE.

In an effort to encourage investment culture, Nigerian Stock Exchange on Wednesday 4th April, 2018 organized an interactive session for the staff of National Industrial court of Nigeria, Abuja Division on the need to invest in stock market.

Among the attendees who graced the session were Adeyemi Osoba, NSE-Lagos, Cordelia Ihedioha NSE-Abuja; Nana Imam NSE-Abuja, Yewande Adekunle NSE-Abuja, Okwudili Egwu, Vice Principal Cowry Assest and Evbern Cordelia from Cowry Assset.

The Chief Registrar O. W. Daudu Esq who led staff of the court to the interactive session expressed total appreciation for NSE for deeming it fit to sacrifice their time for facilitating this session. He posited that, it’s evidently clear that the knowledge acquired from this august gathering will go a long way in re positioning the minds of the staff towards investing in the stock market.

The facilitators also communicated that the way to mitigate risk is through diversification. Investors should look at investing offers that provide a diversified portfolio with a balance based on their overall investing goals. In general, a portfolio that contains a variety of ETFs, bonds and cash is a great place to start,”.

All in all, History has proven again and again that the key to achieving financial security is to start saving and investing early. “What people need most is to face the ‘fear’ head on and get started, taking one small step at a time.” They say.

The staff asked questions that have been begging for answers relating to investing in stock market and bountiful answers were provided with illustrations.
