President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. A.B Mahmoud SAN has called on the Chairman of NBA Ikeja Branch Mr. Adesina Ogunlana to give a report of the activities of the branch on the recently introduced Lagos State Land Use Charge Law.

In a statement, Mr. Ogunlana, stated that at about 10:44 am on March 22, 2018, he got a call from President Mahmoud stating that the Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem had requested for the President’s intervention on the situation between NBA Ikeja and the Lagos State Government over the Land Use Charge.

His statement reads:

This morning, Mr A. B MAHMOUD SAN the president of the Nigerian Bar Association interacted with me over the telephone.”

“The President told me that the learned Attorney General of Lagos state had reported me to him and that he (the President) was asked to talk to me over our situation with the Lagos state Government over the Land Use Charge.

“Said the President ‘ what’s happening in Lagos, Mr Ogunlana?”

“I ventured a response and after a short while, the President asked whether he could get a report from me. I responded in the affirmative but requested for the e-mail address of our esteemed leader to send the needful.”

It would be recalled that following the hike in Land Use Charge in Lagos state, the Ikeja branch of the NBA had staged a protest demanded total reversal of the charges.

Following the protest, Lagos State had reduced the new charges by 50%. A reduction the Ogunlana led NBA rejected.

For the NBA Ikeja Branch, it is total reversal or nothing. Whether this position would be varied in the light of the above development would be determined in a short time.
