    Mrs. Funke Adekoya SAN heads the dispute resolution practice group at AÉLEX, a leading law firm with offices in Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Abuja and Accra, Ghana.  She graduated top of her class from the University of Ife and obtained her LLM from Harvard Law School.

    With over 40 years’ experience in commercial litigation and corporate dispute resolution, she leads a team that advises clients in the area of commercial and corporate litigation as well as business insolvency and reorganization.

    As a litigator, Mrs. Adekoya SAN represents clients in all hierarchy of Courts in Nigeria and has provided expert opinions and appeared as an expert witness on Nigerian law issues before the courts of England, United States and Turkey.

    As an arbitrator, she is frequently appointed to arbitration tribunals, either as sole or party-appointed arbitrator. She has just been appointed an Arbitrator in the claim by Agro EcoEnergy Tanzania Limited (Tanzanian), Bagamoyo EcoEnergy Limited (Tanzanian), EcoDevelopment in Europe AB (Swedish), EcoEnergy Africa AB (Swedish) against the United Republic of Tanzania by the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington DC.

    In 2017 she was reappointed as a member of the World Bank Group Sanctions Board, a position she would hold for three years and in 2016, she was appointed the Vice-President of the International Court of Arbitration ICC.

    She is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association and belongs to the Lagos Branch of the NBA. Within the International Bar Association (IBA), Mrs. Adekoya SAN belongs to the legal practice division (arbitration committee and section on energy and natural resources law), the public and professional interest division (law firm management committee) and is also an advisory board member of the IBA’s African regional forum as well as an officer of its bar issues commission. She is a life member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
