An official of the Gombe State Shari’a Court of Appeal has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a state High Court on two-count charge bordering on cheating.
The convict, Usman Muhammad Dajji, was dragged to the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following a petition by Sani Abdullahi of Sam Omosco Nigeria Limited, Gombe.
The court was told that the money was paid, unknown to the complainant, the convict forged all the documents that he presented, adding that the defendant converted the money for his personal use.
When the charge was read to Dajji, he pleaded guilty and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
In his verdict, Justice Sa’ad Muhammad however, the judge gave him an option of N30,000 as fine in lieu of imprisonment, being a first time offender.
