Ex-NBA Chief Taidi Jonathan Hails CJN Onnoghen for Setting up Special Courts for Terror Suspects

Mr Taidi Jonathan, the former Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Minna branch, has lauded the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, for setting up special courts in New Bussa, Niger to try terrorism suspects.

Jonathan in Minna on Thursday that Section 36 (1) of 1999 Constitution as amended, guaranteed the right of an accused person to trial.

More than 2,000 terrorism suspects will be standing trial.

Jonathan, who said that the judiciary by this gesture, had demonstrated that it remained the last hope of every Nigerian, lauded the CJN and the judiciary for the courage to go on with the trials.

“The unprecedented action of the CJN in furtherance of his commitment to quick dispensation of justice is highly commended, as it is in the best interest of justice to all”.

Jonathan called on the CJN to extend this gesture to pending corruption cases, some of which had not been determined after eight years.

According to him, the quick dispensation of corruption cases will add credibility to the ongoing fight against corruption in the country.
