National Industrial Court Awards 10.3 Million Damages to a Hotel Attendant

Honourable Justice J. D. Peters of the National Industrial Court (NIC) Lagos Division on Thursday 12th October, 2017, awarded the sum of N10. 3m to a hotel attendant Emmanuel Abah who suffered a disabling injury while working as a staff of Travel Inn Ikeja Lagos.

Abah who was represented in court by Mr. Daniel Onwe  filed the suit in November 2014 claiming damages for the leg injury which he sustained while trying to make use of the elevator of the hotel.

At the conclusion of trial, Justice Peters delivered judgment in favour of the Claimant and held that he is entitled to the award of the judgment sum. He further ordered the Defendant who was represented by Mr. R. O. Okwudili  to comply with the judgment of court within 30 days.

Counsel to the Claimant Mr.  Onwe who spoke with DNL Legal & Style after the court sitting expressed satisfaction with the judgment of court noting that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man. “ This judgment today demonstrates that, indeed, the judiciary is still the last hope of the common man” he stated.
