National Industrial Court, NIC, yesterday, appealed to counsel to intensify efforts in pursuing settlement in a pension suit involving 61 army officers.
The affected officers had sued the Nigerian Army, Chief of Army Staff and Nigerian Army Council over their accrued pension.
At a resumed hearing of the suit in Abuja, the NIC President, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, commended the efforts of both the claimants’ and defendants’ counsel in exploring settlement in the matter.
Tolu Babalaye, counsel to the claimants, was not in court to explain the stage at which both parties had resolved to settle.
Mr Ibraheem Bashir, the defendants’ counsel, however, intimated the court on the meetings held between both parties to reach a favourable settlement.
Justice Adejumo, therefore, urged both counsel to intensify efforts at ensuring that the matter was settled amicably.
He said that the officers were part of a sensitive sector of the country which ought not to be treated with levity.
Adejumo also urged both parties to settle all grievances and possibly return to court for a report of settlement at the next adjourned date.
He adjourned the case till November 28 for report of settlement.
