Ondo State Govt. Set to Reform Customary Courts and Appoint New Magistrates

As part of the plan by the Rotimi Akeredolu SAN’s led administration to reform the Judiciary in Ondo State, the Secretary to the Ondo State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has called for submission of application for the recruitment of lawyers as Judges for Customary Courts and Magistrates Courts in the State.

According to the State JSC Secretary, Customary Courts which hitherto had non lawyers as chairmen in the state shall forthwith have  legal Practitioners of at least 7 years post call experience in practice as Chairman. Also Lawyers, to be employed as Staff Attorney and Magistrates in Ondo State Magistrate Courts must be 3 years post call.

The State Government stated that the development is to ensure that experienced lawyers preside over Magistrate Courts in the State. It would be recalled that prior to the changes, there was no requirement for experience before the appointment of Magistrates in the State.

Submission of application for interested persons closes on Tuesday, October 10 2017. The Ondo State JSC would conduct examination for the applicants.
