Former Supreme Court Justice and Pioneer Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Retired Honourable Justice P. K Nwokedi is dead. He died at 92.
Retired Justice Nwokedi was born on November 3, 1925 and had his elementary education at Holy Trinity School, Onitsha, Anambra State. From there he moved to St. Gregory’s College Lagos for his secondary education.
He studied Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science and started his legal practice in Aba in the present day Abia State.
He practiced Law for 17 years and was appointed a Judge of East Central State. When the East Central State was split into Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo, he became the Chief Judge of Anambra and after Anambra was split into Anambra and Enugu, he remained the Chief Judge of Anambra State. He was nominated to the Supreme Court and became a justice of the Supreme Court from there. Late Justice Nwokedi was chairman, Law Reforms Commission; foundation Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, NHRC.
He was married to Late Mrs. Nwokedi and they were blessed with five children amongst whom are a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and an Assistant Director in the Ministry of Justice.
Prof. chidi Odinkalu speaking of his death earlier today on his twitter handle described the late Hon. Justice Nwokedi as a man of exceptional integrity who would always returned every penny of unspent Estacode.
