FIDA Nigeria on Friday 21st July 2017 at the Court of Appeal Headquarters, Three Arms Zone, Abuja held a Continuing Legal Education/Capacity Building Training of Trainers on Gender Law and other Related Issues for select FIDA members across the six geopolitical zones as part of the mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for every legal practitioner in Nigeria.
The aim of the training was to enhance their knowledge on Legal education as well as equip them on strategies in handling gender related matters. The workshop further enlightened the participants on the procedure and processes of Legislative advocacy towards domestication of the Violence against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act and the Administration of Criminal Justice (ACJ) Act in their various states.
The following presentations were delivered by seasoned and experienced resource persons during the workshop:
1 Discriminatory Laws and Practices against women in Nigeria by Prof. Ine Nnadi
2 Legislative Advocacy – Domestication of the VAPP Act & ACJ Act in the States by Edosa Oviawe
3 Violence Against Women (VAW); its dynamics and laws protecting women by Florence Fiberesima
4 Introduction to Gender as a concept; the dynamics and other related concepts by Chigoziri Ojiaka
The participants were expected to transfer the knowledge gained through step down training for other FIDA members in their respective zones.
At the end of the workshop, participants were issued a certificate to certify that they have undergone FIDA Nigeria Continuing Legal Education program/Capacity Building on Gender Law and other related issues.
