The Business of Law Conference is the foremost thought leadership and business development conference for lawyers. Since its inception in 2019, the conference popularly called; #TBOLC, has continued to re-engineer mindsets and redesign the thinking around the practice and business of law, thereby stirring lawyers and law firms towards innovation, productivity, and profitability in law practice.
At its last conference held on 9th March 2021, the challenge of Funding and Finance plaguing the industry was thoroughly unpacked and dissected and when in December 2021, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), under the leadership of the NBA President, Olumide Akpata, announced the launch of the NBA Access to Finance Scheme for lawyers, it was like a prophecy come to pass and a major win for the organisers.
This has further encouraged the organisers to remain committed to this thought-leadership conference, believing that several positive changes can occur within the industry if the conversation is kept alive.
It is in view of this, that the convener, Olubusola Ajala, announced the fourth edition of the conference.
Speaking with our correspondent, Olubusola, stated that this year’s conference will focus on technology. She further stated that the conference is themed; THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY FOR THE PRACTICE AND BUSINESS OF LAW.
The theme is quite topical in view of the prevailing circumstances and changes experienced worldwide which has brought to fore the increasing need to leverage technology in the provision of professional services, including legal services. This is particularly so seeing that several lawyers and firms are yet to understand the basics, let alone leverage on its many advantages. The need to leverage technology in the delivery of professional services, including legal services, has never before, been more pronounced. It is obvious even to the blind that anyone who does not follow the tide will remain on the abandoned shore in a couple of years to come.
The conference will host three (3) panel sessions;
Session 1: Digital Transformation for the Justice System
Session 2: Optimise, Automate, and Boost Legal Operations for Efficiency and Productivity
Session 3: The Role of Technology in Reversing Brain-Drain, Talent Wars, Mental Health, and Lawyers Welfare
The line-up of panelists this year is an amazing crop of thought leaders and industry giants, from the judiciary, legal-tech companies, senior lawyers as well as law firm administrators. They include Mr. Yemi Candide-Johnson SAN of Strachan Partners, Dr. Ayodele Oni of Bloomfield Law Practice, Mrs. Dolapo Kukoyi of Detail Solicitors, Oyinkansola Fawehinmi of Technolawgical Partners, Mr. Rotimi Ogunyemi of Ogunyemi Solicitors, Leah Molatseli from Legal Interact, South Africa, and Samson Adegunle of NextCounsel, amongst others.
