The Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos has adjourned the suit filed by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) against the Federal Government, over the Twitter ban to October 4, 2021.
The body of lawyers had on June 18, 2021, filed an action at the Court challenging the constitutionality and overall legality of the said policies and directives of the Federal Government over Twitter.
In the suit signed by NBA’s seven-member legal team, Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) are 1st to 4th defendants.
The body seeks a declaration from the court that the ban or suspension of the microblogging site is unlawful.
According to a statement signed by NBA Publicity Secretary, Dr. Rapulu Nduka, the group also wants the court to declare that any prosecution of users of the site will be unconstitutional.
Besides, the NBA wants the court to declare that the ban affects the business, employment, and economic activities of lawyers and Nigerians generally.
They are equally praying for an order of the Court mandating all mobile network and Internet service providers to unblock the use of microblogging and social media sites.
