The spirit of solidarity, togetherness, and humanity played out, as hundreds of notable Nigerians across religious, professions, and ethnic affiliations converged in Nsukka, Enugu State to bid farewell to Chief Amechi Ogbuanya Ugwoke (Nwa Akakpuenyi) the Onyishi Uhuonyishi, father of Hon. Justice Nelson Ogbuanya of the Portharocourt Judicial Division of the National Industrial Court who slept in the Lord in the year 2021 at the age of 91.

The deceased until his death was known for his commitment and service to God and humanity. He would easily be remembered and missed for his uprightness and friendliness while he served as village head and community leader.

Being a man of peace, he ensured that no one was oppressed or denied fair share of entitlements, and he resolved disputes presented to him with dignity in tandem with the moral standards of conduct as advocated by his progenitor, the great Eze Akakpuenyi.

During his youthful age, Chief Amechi engaged in wrestling matches and won many accolades, including lands, for his wrestling prowess.

With little education, he applied himself in technical skills, and later served as a technician surveyor with a construction company involved in public works in the then old Western Nigeria, and lived in Owo, Ondo State until the civil war in 1967. He speaks Yoruba language fluently; when he returned home, he engaged in farming and community leadership until his demise.

The burial ceremonies started on Wednesday 3rd November 2021 with wake keep at his compound Umuekwa Village, Ajuona-Obimo, Nsukka followed by the Funeral Rites and Internment at the same compound on Thursday 4th November 2021.

The Chief Mourner, Hon. Justice Nelson Ogbuanya while recounting the life of his late father, expressed appreciation to God for a life well spent.

“As he live his life without blemish, sat on the stool of his ancestor as the village head, and now join his ancestors at the ripe age of 91 years, we can say ‘Onyishi Ladooh!!’” Justice Ogbuanya remarked.

The Hon. President of the Court, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip PhD, FNIALS was ably represented by Hon. Justice Oluwakayode Arowosegbe, others are Hon. Justice Isaac Essien,  Hon. Justice Elizabeth Oji, members of the bar, staff of the court, and many others.

Our fervent prayer to God is to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the entire family the grace and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Verily, a worthy great grandfather has gone to rest in the blossom of the Lord.
