The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Benin Branch has set up a Sexual and Gender based Violence Committee.
In a statement by the Secretary of the Branch, Mr. Andrew O. Lawani, the 12 member committee which is to be headed by Onyinyechi Nwachukwu has the following among its terms of reference;
To ensure the provision of effective , comprehensive and coordinated response to cases of gender based violence; ensure the effective prosecution of gender based violence cases in the State; represent the Bar in any fora involving issues of sexual and gender based violence; liase with the Police, Ministry of Justice and the Judiciary in ensuring the effective implementation of the VAP Law; To raise awareness of gender based violence issues among stakeholder, survivors and members of the Public and many others.
Other members of the Committee are; Stella Ojeme, Alternate Chairman; Orobosa Okunbor, Secretary and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare, Consultant.
Others are Sapphire Adaikpoh; Ivie Oliha; Eghosa Osarogiagbon; Loveth Osagiede; essy Oserogho; Asoro Jennifer; Esohe Uwuigbe; Ogechi Ilueminosen.
