Police arrested 889 suspected armed robbers and cultists in Lagos since January, Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu said on Thursday.

He gave the statistics while hosting Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) in charge of Zone II, Johnson Kokumo, at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

According to Odumosu, 490 suspects were held for armed robbery and 297 for cultism in various parts of the state.

He said operatives of the command also recovered 173 assorted arms, 239 ammunition and 42 stolen vehicles.

The police boss said no operative was killed in action during the period under review.

Reeling infrastructural achievements of the command, Odumosu said a 50-bed space accommodation was underway to house junior officers, explaining that funds for the project were gotten from law-abiding and willing individuals, associations and stakeholders.

The accommodation, Odumosu said, would help address housing deficits for operatives posted to the command.

Kokumo said a joint patrol between police operatives in Lagos and Ogun would soon commence to rid border towns of criminal elements.

He praised the CP and his team for reducing crime rate in Lagos, urging them to do more especially with regards to traffic.
