
The NBA elections is around the corner again. It is an election that occurs once in two years and usually comes with its intrigues as to who will emerge successfully as the National President of Africa’s largest professional body.
However, the burden of producing the president and other executive members of the NBA is not an easy task, that lies on the head that wears the crown, Mr. Tawo Eja Tawo, SAN.
In this year’s election, the Electoral Committee Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has decided to make voting in the election open to all its eligible members via an e-voting process.
In a chat with Onikepo Brairhwaithe and Jude Igbanoi of This Day on 16th June, 2020, Mr. Tawo promises to ensure a free, fair and credible election by ensuring inclusiveness, transparency, accountability and competitiveness.
In setting off the election process, Mr. Tawo and his team commenced with issuing a preliminary notice, followed by guidelines, nominations of candidates which opened and ended on the 11th day of March 2020 and 29th day of May 2020 respectively.
Mr. Tawo also stated that an independent credible IT Consultant has been hired to carry out the elections. However, they will have to analyze, assess and critique the existing NBA election portal as to its integrity, functionality, and suitability for the election or otherwise advise on other options.
