The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria Bayelsa State branch has warned the general public against patronizing unscrupulous individuals who go about demanding money from people to render legal assistance to them.
In a statement issued by its Chairperson Tariere Egbegi, she stated that as a Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Organisation made up of Female lawyers. FIDA is involved in the promotion, protection and preservation of the rights of women and children by providing free legal services.
“It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous elements who obviously are not FIDANs are going about claiming to be members of FIDA and in that guise are making monetary demands on members of the public before rendering supposed legal services to them.”
“FIDA BAYELSA will never request for money from anyone in rendering legal assistance to them.”
“BE IT KNOWN that FIDA BAYELSA dissociates itself from anybody or group of persons who has requested for/ or received funds in its name as such persons have acted independent of FIDA BAYELSA and are not members of FIDA BAYELSA. Any member of the public who gives money to anybody parading as FIDA BAYELSA representatives does so at their own risk and FIDA BAYELSA will not be held liable.”
“The General Public should please take note and report such person(s) immediately at the FIDA BAYELSA Office, MULTI DOOR COURT HOUSE, JUDICIARY COMPLEX, YENAGOA. OR call 08037111170 and 08063284780.”
