The Law Students’ Association of Nigeria is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with Africa Legal, a UK-based professional career resource hub, and part of the Africa Professional Services Group (Africa-PSG). The partnership is targeted at exposing Nigerian law students to enormous capacity-building and career opportunities, and also bridging the gap between law students, young lawyers and the professional labour market.
Africa Legal is the first sector-focused platform to be launched by the Africa-PSG, driven by a desire to create access for aspirational legal professionals across Africa to jobs, market insight and education. With a growing team based in London, Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos and Nairobi, it partners with law firms, academia and corporates to host jobs, create bespoke and engaging content and learning experiences hosted on the Africa Legal platform.
Formally proposing the partnership, the LAWSAN National President, Mr. Atiku Muhammad Jafar noted thus: “We desire to create a productive working relationship with Africa Legal that will benefit our members. Fortunately, partnering with us, as the largest national law students’ body in Africa, will help actualize your vision of being the home Africa’s professional careers. We believe that preparing law students for their careers will impact greatly on the quality of the lawyers and professionals they will soon become, and we are very proud to identify with the work you do”.
On the other hand, Africa Legal expressed great joy and readiness to work with LAWSAN with a view to achieving their goals. On this note, Mr. Scott Cowan, the Co-Founder and CEO of Africa Legal stated while discussing the framework and modalities of the partnership as follows; We are so driven about being able to get the young generation have access to as much information as they can get, because there is no one that delivers what we do There is one thing we are particularly passionate about: when we have conversations with as many people as we could, it was always overwhelming and quite humbling. But I was staggered by this account that 4000 young lawyers qualify every year in Nigeria, and only about 5 to 6 percent get the top jobs.”
“At the moment, there is not enough being done. This is all about your future.
