Onnoghen, Jega, Others to Grace NIALS 2018 Founders’ Day Lecture

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Hon Justice WSN Onnoghen, GCON, FCIArb, FNIAL, Professor Attahiru Jega ,Pro-Chancellor Plateau State University, Former Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and Abubakar Malami, SAN,  Hon. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice are some of the distinguished guest who would be attending the 2018 Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies NIALS Founders’ Day Lecture.

The lecture with the theme TOWARDS ELECTION INTEGRITY IN 2019: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTSwhich would be delivered by Prof Jega would hold on Tuesday, March 27 2018, at the Andrew Otutu Obaseki Auditorium of the National Judicial Institute Abuja, at 10am.

According to the Director-General of the Institute, Professor Adedeji Adekunle, SAN, the NIALS Founders Day lecture is held to uphold the vision of the Founding fathers of the Institute which is “To Develop a World Class Institution and the Nucleus of Legal Scholarship in Africa.” This vision, which has been institutionalized through statute has been nurtured over the years by staff and management of the institute.

Since the past 37 years, the Institute has set aside a day to honour its Founding fathers through this platform. The Founders’ Day lecture is an opportunity to revisit the dreams of NIALS founding fathers and critically examine its fidelity to its statutory mandate. It is a day of special tribute to those who have steadfastly and with passion  delivered the mandate of the Institute through their service to the Institute.

Previous edition of the lecture has featured distinguished personalities such as professor B.O Nwabueze, SAN, The Honourable Justice A.G Karbi-whyte (JSC Rtd); Late Chief Bola Ige, SAN, Former Attorney General of the Federation, Late Professor Ian Brownlie, C.B.E, Q.C of Oxford University. Others are Professor Ademola Popoola Legal Scholar and Dean, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife; Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji , President of the International Criminal Court, Hague and  Hon. Justice (Prof.) Otieno–Odek, JCA & Director of Judiciary Training Institute (JTI), Kenya.
