The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) may initiate criminal proceedings against the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. A.B Mahmoud SAN and his secretary Mr. Abiola Olagunju over the alleged presentation of Mr. Oladele Olubakin’s Art Portraiture to President Buhari by the NBA.
A reliable source informed DNL Legal & Style that Mr. Olubakin has through his lawyers filed a petition against the NBA officers to the NCC, noting that the NCC will commence investigation and prosecution of those involved if found culpable.
Copy of the petition sighted by DNL Legal & Style captioned “Petition Against A.B Mahmoud (SAN) and Abiola Olagunju. Esq of the Nigerian Bar Association for Criminally Converting the Copyright of Oladele Olubakin Esq. Over the Art Portraiture of His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari” chronicled how the NBA allegedly gifted President Buhari with the said portrait without the consent and approval of Mr. Olubakin and prayed the the NCC to prosecute the officers of the NBA involved.

It would be recalled that Olubakin has also instituted a N500m suit against the NBA at the Federal High Court Abuja. The civil suit has been adjourned to May 22nd for hearing while NBA is yet to file its defence to the action.
