Below is as communicated by the Secretary General of the Nigerian Bar Association:
It is on record that the Nigerian Bar Association, Aba Branch has been engulfed in disputes emanating from the 2017 Elections into the various Branch Offices. It is also on record that various efforts made by senior members of the Branch to resolve the dispute did not yield the desired result.
The National Secretariat of the NBA had received reports of skirmishes and physical confrontations involving some members of the Branch. This conduct no doubt has caused greater hardship to other members of the Branch who are not parties to the dispute.
In view of the above, the President of the NBA being mindful of the need to decisively address this issue before it escalates further, has set up a Caretaker Committee whose mandates are to secure the assets of the Branch and conduct fresh elections into all offices of the Branch in accordance with the provisions of the NBA 2015 Constitution.
The Committee which has thirty (30) days to complete its assignment, has the following members:
- Ben Oji Esq : 3rd Vice President
- Raphael Monye Esq : Chairman NBA Jos Branch
- Nnamdi Otukwu Esq : Chairman, NBA Enugu Branch
The President enjoins all members of NBA Aba Branch to kindly cooperate fully with the caretaker committee in achieving its mandates.
