Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has described as a baseless rumour the news making round that the Association has adopted a candidate for the forth coming NBA General Election.
The disclaimer was issued today March 4, 2018 by the General Secretary of MULAN Ridwan A Sadiq, Esq.
The statement reads:
It has come to the notice of the leadership of MULAN that rumours are being peddled that the Association has adopted a particular candidate running for the office of NBA President as its candidate. This rumour is baseless and totally unfounded.
It should be noted that MULAN at its NEC meeting held in Katsina State on the 23rd of Dec. 2017 resolved to make necessary enquiries on all the candidates running for electoral positions in the forthcoming NBA elections before making pronouncement on the candidates to support and efforts are ongoing in this regard.
It is noteworthy that, as emphasized by NBA President in his speech at the just concluded NBA NEC meeting held at Ilorin, Kwara State, ban on campaign is still in force until it is lifted, MULAN as a stakeholder in NBA is totally in support of this stance and therefore states categorically that it is not a party to any such campaign for the said candidate and as such has not endorsed anyone as being rumoured.
MULAN leadership is however mindful of the constitutional rights of individual members to support any candidate of their choice and in this wise urges every MULAN member to participate actively in the said forthcoming NBA election but within the ambit of law and rules of engagement in the election.
