The National Industrial Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State has ordered the reinstatement of Mr. Neville Ohakhedo to his job as a lecturer in the institution.

Justice O. O. Oyewumi  in her judgment declared the letter terminating  Mr.  Obakhedo’s  appointment by the authorities of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, as unlawful, null and void.

The judge also noted that  the former Vice – Chancellor, Prof Osayuki Oshodin’s security alert issued against Mr. Obakhedo and some other persons was false, spurious and thus discountenanced.

It would be recalled that Obakhedo’s appointment was terminated following an allegation that he and other persons planned to set parts of the university on fire and disrupted the NUGA games hosted by the university.

The court ordered the University of Benin to forthwith reinstate the claimant to his employment and pay his salary, emoluments and all other entitlements without any loss of seniority or rank. According to Justice Oyewumi, “The claimant is entitled to his promotion upon the fulfilment of the procedure as stated in Chapter 111 of Exhibit NO3. Therefore, defendant is to forthwith set in motion the machinery for the promotion of the claimant to lecturer 1 and Senior lecturer respectively.
