Former Kwara Chief Judge Passes On; Gov Ahmed, Others Mourn

A former Chief Judge and National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union, IEDPU, Justice Saka Yusuf (rtd), is dead.

He died at the late hours of Monday, 12 February, 2018 after a brief illness and has since been buried.

Mourning the deceased, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, described the death of the former Chief Judge as an exit of a fearless but God-fearing legendary legal luminary.

The governor said he was deeply saddened to receive the news of the demise of Justice Yusuf, said that, “the late Justice Saka contributed his quota to the state and humanity within the opportunities available to him as a Chief Judge of the state and former National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU). No doubt, the exit of this legal icon will be missed by his family in particular and the state in general”.

Dr Ahmed prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the families, friends and the entire Emirate the fortitude to bear the loss.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki on his official twitter page wrote, ” My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the late Justice Saka Yusuf who passed away today.

“Justice Saka was a highly cerebral legal luminary, who served as the Kwara State Chief Judge during my tenure as Governor.

“Justice Saka’s contributions to the judiciary will be remembered, and he will surely be missed. May the Almighty Allah (SWT) grant his soul a place amongst the righteous ones.”

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has described the death of former state Chief Judge, Justice Saka Yusuf as a great loss to the judiciary, Ilorin Emirate and the entire state.

The Speaker, in a condolence message issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Shuaib Abdulkadir said that the retired judge’s contributions to the judiciary could not be quantified.

Ahmad noted that the legal luminary who served as the chief judge during Dr. Bukola Saraki’s administration as the state governor did not bungle the opportunity but served meritoriously and left with good legacies.

He added that as a judge, late Yusuf was well respected by lawyers for his articulate judgement delivery in all cases he handled and as an incorruptible judge.

The Speaker regretted that his service delivery to the judiciary, experience, expertise and wisdom would be missed, noting that he had been a role model to several judges and Emirate sons and daughters.

The legislator recalled that as the President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, late Yusuf led with great example and left his footprints in the sands of time with outstanding achievements.

Ahmad further recalled that late Yusuf used his expertise and experience to resolve several issues which bedevilled the union’s growth and was loved by the members.

Justice Saka‘s contributions to the legal profession will be remembered, and he will sorely be missed. His great contributions to Ilorin Emirate will forever be appreciated”, he said.

The Speaker condoled the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim SuluGambari for the loss and prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) grant his soul a place amongst the righteous ones.
