Former Abia AG Tasks Lawyers on Digital Practice

Former Abia State Attorney General and Justice Commissioner, Chief Okey Amechi (SAN) has tasked lawyers to embrace digital practice in order to be effective.His prediction was contained in the keynote address titled “Equipping the lawyer for future challenges” which he delivered at the 2018 Law Week ceremony of the Umuahia Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The SAN, who is Umuahia based said lawyers ability to acquire more and relevant education to be able to understand and master new trends in legal thoughts and practice, keeping pace with the ever developing technology, acquiring sufficient IT education, specializing in different areas of legal practice in order to be able to plumb the enormous benefits of modern economy and forming partnerships to harness diverse professional skills to enhance quality service and increase income are some of the challenges in practice.

Stressing the necessity for continuing legal education by lawyers, Amechi said that as the economy continues to develop, new species of causes of action would from time to time emerge, adding that the world over, legal history has shown that reading is the second nature of a true legal practice.

According to him, reading to the legal profession is a commandment that is second to none. “It follows therefore that any lawyer hoping to find his space in the vast field of legal practice must obey this commandment that all other commandments, if any, take shade under it,” he said.
