The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Technical Committee on Conference Planning, TCCP, held its first meeting today, April 5th, 2018 at the NBA House,Abuja. The 2018 NBA AGC is aimed at developing a roadmap for consolidating and surpassing the achievement of the 2017 conference.
Professor Ajayi, SAN continued by saying that :”What we want to do with the conference this year is to consolidate on those achievements, and improve on areas we feel need improvements. We see each lawyer as an institution and each law firm as a broader institution, hence we will carefully draw up sub themes and topics that will address the growth of these institutions to enable them meet the challenges of businesses in the 21st century as well as select speakers to address the conference in this regard.
The TCCP Chairman further emphasized that this year’s conference would provide a level-playing field for all legal practitioners across the country so that access to legal authorities will be even for all lawyers.
Professor Koyinsola Ajayi, SAN, rolled out the names of the great leaders and eminent dignitaries who the committee would be inviting including the former President of America, Barack Obama and / or his wife Michele Obama,the United Nations Secretary General and former British PM Mr Tony Blair.
The meeting ended with the TCCP Chair thanking members for answering NBA`s clarion call to duty while urging all hands to be on deck so as to deliver a world class conference.The TCCP role into sub Commitees for effective planning and execution of its mandate.
In his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, OON, SAN, welcomed committee members and noted that expectations were high from members and development partners as a result of last year’s unprecedented conference.
He urged Committee members to work assiduously with a view to delivering a world class conference that will not only provide Nigerian lawyers brave new opportunities for global networking, knowledge exchange, business relationship, international synergies, capacity building and continuing professional development on new areas of law, but also provide opportunity for interactions on other issues of national and professional importance for a majority of Nigerian lawyers.
Professor Koyinsola Ajayi, SAN, Chairman, TCCP, enumerated how the 2017 AGC theme; “AFRICAN BUSINESS: PENETRATING THROUGH INSTITUTION BUILDING” was able to have an impact on the economy. The Chairman stated that, as regards to these year’s conference theme, there is the need to consider two keywords ‘transition and institution building’ giving that the country and the Bar are currently in transition phase. According to the TCCP Chair, “it will be good to have transition in line with the change of governance and institution building.”
