WHY I MUST ATTEND NBA AGC

The 57TH Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association is scheduled to hold in Lagos from Friday 25 to Thursday 31 August 2017, below is a summary of the reasons why I must attend the conference.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The organizers of the upcoming conference have promised that they will be bringing in legal luminaries from both within and outside the country as speakers and resource persons. Attending the conference would afford me the opportunity to learn from the resource persons’ in-depth knowledge of the law, acquired through years of experience.

NETWORKING

The conference will be a very good avenue to meet and talk to other people who are more experienced than I am in the profession. At the conference will be lawyers from other jurisdictions, lawyers who are engaged in areas of practice where I have little or no knowledge and lawyers who have achieved excellence at the Bar. The conference would afford me the chance of meeting and exchanging ideas with some of these people and an opportunity to make new friends.

TO BE INVOLVED IN THE DISCUSSION OF THE WELFARE OF LAWYERS

The conference is the largest gathering of lawyers in the country where issues affecting lawyers are discussed and resolutions reached. Attending the conference and making quality contributions would give me a feeling of being a part of the decision making process.

THE OFFER OF A TABLET WITH ONE YEAR SUBSCRIPTION OF LAW PAVILION ELECTRONIC REPORT AND OTHER RESEARCH RESOURCES

The fact that Information Technology gadgets make law practice easier cannot be over-emphasized. At a click, one would be exposed to decisions of courts, law textbooks and journals, precedents and other research materials. The electronic tablets, if given to participants as promised, would aid lawyers in no small measure in the practice of law.

MEETING OLD FRIENDS

The conference would be an opportunity to be reunited with old friends and share tales of our journey and experiences so far in the profession.
