Founder of Urban Lawyer and Nigeria-British Lawyer Tunde Okewale MBE  has been nominated as one of the inspirational figures set to receive honorary doctorates from the Sheffield Hallam University.

Described as an award-winning barrister who was given an MBE in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to the community and disadvantaged young people, Tunde, practices at the Doughty Street Chambers and is also listed in The Sunday Times 2017 ‘Alternative Rich List’ identified for having enriched the lives of others. He continues to excel in his field, having won numerous awards and accolades, based on his exemplary work and sustained social involvement.

All of Tunde’s work encompasses an element of human rights and commitment to issues of social justice and civil liberties. He is heavily involved in community work including his most recent project ‘Urban Lawyers’, which makes law education more accessible to marginalized groups in society.

In 2016, Tunde opened a Sheffield branch of the project in partnership with Sheffield Hallam’s Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice.

Tunde was nominated alongside Dorothy Fleming, Grace Clough MBE, Kate Allatt, Carl Cavers, David Richards all renowned and who have distinguished themselves in various fields
