Former President of Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir has described Nigeria’s unity as sacrosanct and non-negotiable.

Justice Nasir, who is also the Chairman Board of Trustees, Sardauna Memorial Foundation, said the north’s founding fathers had made scrificed to make Nigeria a great country at its most turbulent period.

Nasir made the disclosure Sunday in Kano when he led a delegation of Sardauna Memorial Foundation to the family of late AVM Mukhtar Muhammed for a condolence visit.

He said, “The late Premier and his contemporaries have made a suprime sacrifice in making Nigeria’s unity sacrosanct. Therefore, rocking the boat at this present time  can only spell doom for the nation.

“The existence of Nigeria solely depends on the cohesion needed to maintain the leading role of the region in  preserving the unity the country had enjoyed for decades. The issue of religion and ethnicity had been relegated to the background by the late Premier and all his disciples for the issue of national interest to be consolidated.”

On the late Muhammed, the former President of the Court of appeal, maintained that the north and the country in general had lost a rare gem and committed military officer.

He pointed out that for his patriotism and demonstration of exceptional spirit of courage, the late resilient military officer would have contacted his fellow northern compatriots in dousing the tension that greeted the clamour for disunity and fragmentation bandied about by  some unpatriotic ethnic bigots.

In a related development, the Director Institute of Agricultural Research of Ahamadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Umar Abubakar also described late AVM Muhammed as a great patriot and an iconic figure whose contributions to the famous ABU Zaria were unprecedented.

He said the university as a bastion of high profile academic activity had recorded laudable strides on many fronts courtesy of the late  military officer  in his capacity as the University’s Pro- Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council.

Professor Abubakar said late Muhammed’s initiatives of transforming the ivory tower would have reached fruition had he been alive.

He further revealed that his open door policy and his ability to listen to the voice of reason had  created the much needed synergy among all heads of units in the University to rub minds on how to achieve greatness in academic  parlance  for ABU to maintain a leading position in the comity of prominent Universities across the nation.
