Mrs. Olufunke Adekoya, SAN is  a quintessential litigator and arbitrator. She is a partner and heads the Dispute Resolution Practice Group in Aelex, a leading law firm in Lagos.

A graduate of law from the University of Ife. Mrs. Adekoya SAN was  called to the Nigerian Bar in 1975. She proceeded to the prestigious Harvard Law School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA where she  obtained her LLM in 1977. She is a Solicitor in England and Whales. In 2001 she was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and became the fifth woman in Nigerian to be elevated to the rank. She is a Notary Public,  a member of the Body of Benchers and has been a Life Bencher since 2007. The same year, she was  voted the Most Outstanding Female Legal Practitioner of the Year by Financial Standard Newspaper and Women Entrepreneurs African Network

As a litigator, Mrs. Adekoya SAN represents clients in all hierarchy of Courts in Nigeria and has provided expert opinions and appeared as an expert witness on Nigerian law issues before the courts of England, United States and Turkey.

In 2016, Mrs. Adekoya SAN was appointed the Vice-President of the International Court of Arbitration ICC in 2016. She represents both local and transnational parties as counsel in both domestic and international arbitration proceedings within Nigeria and abroad and has acted in numerous disputes as either – party appointed Arbitrator, Sole Arbitrator and Presiding Arbitrator. She is a member of the LCIA African Users Council and the Nigeria’s ICC National Committee; and is listed on the ICDR Energy Arbitrators List, the panel of neutrals of the Lagos Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration and the Nigerian Communications Commission. She lectures regularly on arbitration law and procedure and has been approved by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as a Tutor at the Associate to Fellowship Course level.

Mrs Adekoya SAN is a members of the Nigerian Bar Association Legal Profession Regulation Review Committee. She was the 1st Vice President (2002/04) of the Nigerian Bar Association. Past President and member of Council of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Legal Practice. She was a member of the Editorial Committee that produced the Companies and Allied Matters Act in 1990; Member of the Lagos State Government Committee appointed to review and draft new High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2004; Life member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA); Member of the International Bar Association’s Legal Practice Division (Arbitration and Business Organizations Committees) and its Professional and Public Interest Law Division (Law Firm Management Committee. She is an Officer of the Bar Issues Commission of the IBA and of its Policy Committee and a member of the Advisory Board of its African Regional Forum.

She is a legal luminary!
