Adubabari Mankie-Tanen a Port Harcourt based lawyer has always been vocal on contemporary issues. He takes particular swipe at Nigeria lawyers in most of his reactions for not living up to their responsibility as problem solvers in the society. Adubabari has severally called on lawyers to take up the responsibility of defending the rule of law.

He titles this one: “MY WARNING TO MY PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION, THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION (NBA) ON ITS DRAMATIC TURN IN SUPPORT OF DICTATORSHIP for Reason(s) best known to it.”

Those who seek ABSOLUTE POWER, even though they seek it to do What they regard as good, are simply Demanding the right to ENFORCE THEIR OWN VERSION OF HEAVEN ON EARTH. And let me remind you, they are the very ONES who always create THE MOST HELLISH TYRANNIES. ABSOLUTE POWERS does CORRUPT, and those who seek it MUST be SUSPECT and MUST BE OPPOSED.
Their mistaken course stems from false notions of EQUALITY. Ladies and Gentlemen, EQUALITY, rightly understood, as our founding fathers understood it, leads to LIBERTY and to the EMANCIPATION of CREATIVE Differences. Wrongly understood, as it has been so TRAGICALLY in our Time, it leads First to CONFORMITY and then to DESPOTISM” – Barry Goldwater, 2/1/1909.

In my THINKING, WE have FAILED Nigeria and Nigerians in the light of our Duty to the SOCIETY: GIVING VOICE TO THE VOICELESS: this is the duty of lawyers.
“Lawyers are different folk. We are trained to think differently. The concepts of Liberty and Justice are on our Minds. Obviously, Lawyers are not the only people who want to change the world, but we may be the only people who recognize that lasting and just change must be consistent with the Rule of Law.

I have come to realize that without Lawyers, the fight for Justice would have been lost long ago. We have a sacred duty and responsibility to continue what at times may seem an uphill battle.

We Lawyers are Problem Solvers. We give people Hope; we give people their lives back.
We speak for those who would otherwise have no voice. We serve our Communities, we represent the Law and we are the key to a “Just Society”
–President, American Bar Association,2013.

I SEE REVOLUTION COMING…..!
