Nwafili Mark Okwuosa Esq, a private legal practitioner in Onitsha, Anambra State has filed a suit to challenge the establishment of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) and the Federal Government’s sponsorship of Pilgrims.
In a Suit with No- FHC/AWK/113/2017; Nwafili Okwuosa Esq vs. Attorney General and Minister of Justice Federal Republic of Nigeria and Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) filed at the Federal High Court Awka, Anambra State, Nwafili is seeking the following reliefs:
- A declaration that given the provisions of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) prohibits state religion and forbids the State from expending public funds in the aid, support and /or sponsorship of any religion and /or its adherents.
- A declaration that the provisions of the NCPC Act stated above is unconstitutional and against the provisions of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
- An order of Court compelling the FG to withdraw everyone in the employ of any government or government agency or department from the NCPC and decline from remunerating them from public coffers.
- Perpetual injunction restraining the FG from sponsorship of Pilgrims and activities of NCPC.
