Late Justice Andrew Obaseki Buried in Benin

The remains of a former acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Andrews Obaseki, have been laid to rest in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The late Obaseki, who was an uncle to the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, died on July 13 at the age of 91.

He was buried close to the grave of his late father, Chief Gaius Obaseki, at his Benin residence on Idahosa Street on Friday.

Earlier, family and friends gathered at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church on Lagos Street for his funeral service, which was presided over by the Bishop of Benin Diocese, Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen.

In his sermon, Imasuen described the deceased a legal icon who lived a life worthy of emulation.

He also advised Nigerians, especially leaders, to use their positions in positive ways.

Present at the ceremony were dignitaries drawn from the judiciary, executive, and the legislature.

Among them were the state governor, his deputy, Mr. Philip Shaibu; serving members of the state and National Assembly; Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire; immediate past governor of Edo, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole; Renowned and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

The first son of the deceased, Edosa, said that his late father would be missed as he left at a time when he had a lot to offer.
