Lagos Offers Free Legal Services to Celebrate 2017 International Day of Peace

The Lagos State Citizens Mediation Centre, CMC, has said that it will provide free legal services to residents of the State as part of activities slated for the celebration of the Year 2017 edition of the United Nations International Day of Peace scheduled for Thursday, 21st of September.

The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem made this known on Friday at a press conference held as part of preparations to commemorate the 2017 United Nations International Day of Peace at Alausa Ikeja.

 The Commissioner, who was represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Funlola Odunlami, stated that the free legal advice and mediation services would be rendered to Lagosians within the Ikorodu Road axis and Ibeju-Lekki on 18th and 19th of September, 2017.

 According to the Commissioner, the State Government believes that in celebrating the day, the global community would further focus attention on issues that would promote peaceful co-existence.

 She maintained that the present situation of the country attests to the fact that peace is needed to engender the concept of Sustainable Development Goals and for positive impact on humanity.

 Kazeem averred that “The Citizens’ Mediation Centre, in collaboration with the United Nations Information Office, is set to mark the annual International Day of Peace to propagate the ethos of peaceful co-existence among residents in the State as a way of educating and sensitizing the public on the need for peaceful co-existence and respect for human dignity that will engender socio-economic growth.”

 He added that the importance which the State Government attaches to peaceful conduct of businesses, hospitality, tourism among others informed the establishment of agencies that will attend to matters relating to Land Grabbers, Special Task Force, donation of Police Vehicles for security, introduction of DNA Forensic laboratory to archive blood samples of criminals, as well as other laudable initiatives.

 In her remarks, the Director, Citizens Mediation Centre, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Odusanya said that the Centre has been adopting a consultative approach to resolving all the issues brought before it such that all parties involved feel satisfied with the resolution of the Centre.

She assured residents of the State that the approach used by the Centre would be sustained for peaceful co-existence of all residents of the State, foster development and also to promote economic activities.
