Being healthy is not just about the absence of an illness or disease. It is basically being in a good physical, mental, social and psychological state.

Think of the body as a car. When a car is well-tuned and maintained it runs very well but when a car is not taken for scheduled maintenance, it runs poorly or even breaks down. The body is similar to a car in the sense that the better you take care of it the better it works and the healthier it stays. But when a body is consistently neglected, it starts to break down.

To remain healthy, ensure the following tips:

Drink lots of water

Think of water as a nutrient your body needs that is present in liquids, plain water, and foods. All of these are essential daily to replace the large amounts of water lost each day.

Eat a good number of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables also protect your health. These healthy foods contain essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that help protect you from chronic diseases, which can be painful, debilitating and even fatal in some cases. Fruits and vegetables have been shown to help protect against heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancer, gastrointestinal issues, high blood pressure, eye disease and more. Eating fruit and vegetables boosts your immune system

Eat balanced diet

How the body is feeling should show the importance of eating a balanced diet as consistently as possible. There will always be days or weekends that are spent eating too much unhealthy stuff but don’t beat yourself up. Just try to do better next time.  When you eat  right you feel better and lessen the possibility of sickness and disease. The most amazing part is that creating healthy meals is so easy. Start with a lean protein, add a few servings of fruits/vegetables, a complex carbohydrate, and a low calorie drink and the result is a healthy meal that will fuel your body to its highest potential. Be as consistent as possible with eating balanced meals throughout the day, the week, or the month to see the best results from the nutrient rich foods being used by the body for fuel.

Exercise regularly

Want to feel better, have more energy and even add years to your life? Just exercise.

The health benefits of regular exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. Everyone benefits from exercise, regardless of age, sex or physical ability. With regular exercise you control your weight, combat health conditions and diseases, improve your mood and boosts energy and increase your mental alertness.

Avoid self-medication

Self-medication, even for minor ailments, could lead to medical complications. A large number of potent drugs such as pain relievers, cough syrups, anti-allergies, laxatives, antibiotics, antacids and vitamins are sold over-the-counter. Self-medication with over the counter medicines could cause allergy, habituation, and even addiction. Self-medication does not tell the patient about the dosage of the drug, drug interactions and side effects. These can prove to be fatal. Take care of your health and avoid self-medication.

Finally, make the doctor your friend, not just the internet.
