A Chairmanship aspirant in the NBA Lagos Branch Election Mr. Chukwuma Ezeala has promised to ensure that extortion by Registrars or Bailiffs of courts as well as , courts failing to inform counsel well in advance of its inability to sit and other vices clogging the weal of judicial progress would be adequately tackled during his tenure as the Chairman of Lagos NBA Branch.
Mr. Ezeala who believes that a vibrant judicial process would positively affect foreign Direct Investment and the well-being of Nigerian lawyers noted that a slow judicial process affects Foreign Direct Investment and lawyers’ incomes.
Mr. Ezeala told our correspondence that the Lagos Branch of the NBA during his tenure would set up a Judiciary Committee which would comprise of respected Lawyers to ensure that the above plan is realized.
In his words:
If elected to serve you as Chairman, I shall within 30 days of my election constitute a Judiciary Committee with a well-respected senior colleague as the Chairman and a zealous and hardworking colleague as Secretary.
The Committee shall on a monthly basis bring specific issues such as extortion by Registrars or Baillifs, courts failing to inform counsel well in advance of its inability to sit etc to the Chief Judge/SJSC/FJSC for necessary disciplinary action.
Timelines shall be agreed on when processes shall be served, failing which names of defaulting staff are sent to the NBA for onward transmission to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary measures.

The Lagos Branch Election holds on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Foyer of the Lagos State High Court Igbosere. List of elegible voters has been published by the Electoral Committee in compliance with the Uniform Bye Laws of the NBA. To check if you are eligible to vote at the election please go here
