In a statement issued by the General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, the President of the NBA Mr. A.B Mahmoud SAN has constituted a five man committee led by Mallam Yusuf Alli SAN to review the judgment of the Court of Appeal in APPEAL NO: CA/L/969C/2017: HON. JUSTICE HYELADZIRA NGANJIWA V. FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA (FRN).
The statement reads:
This is to inform all legal Practitioners that the attention of the Nigerian Bar Association has been brought to the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division in Appeal No: CA/L/969C/2017: Hon. Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa V. Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN), delivered on 11th December, 2017 where the panel led by Hon. Justice Abimbola Obaseki- Adejumo JCA held that arraignment of judicial officers without first obtaining findings of the National Judicial Council is unconstitutional.
In this regard, President of the NBA, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, SAN, OON in the quest to promote the rule of law and defend the independence of the judiciary has constituted a Committee to review the judgment with the sole aim of advising the generated be the judgment. The members of the Committee are:
- Malam Yusuf Ali, SAN Chairman
- Prof. Adekunle Adedeji, SAN Member
- Dr. Onyeachi Ikpeazu, SAN Member
- Livy Yzoukwu, SAN Member
- Prof. M.T. Ladan Member
The Committee has been given one (1) week to submit its report to the NBA President.
