The 7th Journal of Private International Law Conference will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 3-5 August 2017. The host institution is the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. This is the first time the JPIL Conference is being held in South America.

The previous Conferences were held in Aberdeen (2005), Birmingham (2007), New York (2009), Milan (2011), Madrid (2013), and the 10th Anniversary Conference in Cambridge (2015).

According to Professor Paul Beaumont, one of the lead organisers of this conference, “This conference comes at a particularly important time, with the developments in private international law like the draft Hague Judgments Convention, the revised Brussels II, Regulation, the Experts’ groups in the Hague on surrogacy and on facilitating exportability of family agreements on custody, access and maintenance and as the full implications of the Brexit vote in the EU Referendum come to be understood. The conference is the leading opportunity for private international law academics of all levels of seniority from around the world to gather together to advance our subject.”
